ProPacker 30CP Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pharmacy Automation Company provides automated 30/31 day compliance packaging systems for long term care (LTC) and clinical trails to enhance patient medication compliance.
GLIDDEN, Wisconsin - December 8, 2008 – Patient medication compliance has become an important issue facing pharmacists and medical professionals alike. The Institutes of Medicine (IoM) states “The strategy of using calendar blister packs could help large numbers of patients (including seniors, children and those challenged by cognitive, physical, or functional impairment) take their medication more reliably and safely, and enhance their treatment outcomes.”
Touch & Talk Software International provides the fully automated ProPacker 30CP calendar blister packaging system for pharmacy, clinical trials and contract packagers. The 30CP system is capable of packaging all of the industry standard blister package formats including 30/31 day calendar cards (also called punch or bingo cards), Hospital Unit Dose (HUD), physician sample packages, OTC medications and unit dose strips using industry standard PVC and foil/paper combinations. With optional liquid fillers, the 30CP can also be used for liquid dose packaging.
The 30CP system is fully automated and includes a single color printer allowing complete control of printed copy and barcode placement including drug name, lot/exp and NDC/barcode over each blister pocket (dose). The system also includes the 30CP auto product filler allowing packagers the capability to produce up to 15 blister packages per minute.
The 30CP project manager, John Harding, states “The 30CP packaging system was specifically designed for pharmacy packaging use and to provide an alternative to the current high cost of manual packaging systems using cardboard 6”x9” packaging components that are hand assembled, filled and then heat sealed.” Harding says “Traditional 30 or 31 day compliance packages are both labor intensive and the packaging material costs can run as much as double those used by the 30CP system. Our customers are very happy to reduce labor and overhead for a very good system ROI and to drop package costs down to the 12-15 cent range for 31 doses.”
The Healthcare Compliance Packaging council (HCPC) claims that “pharmaceutical noncompliance is a tremendous problem in the United States that drains an estimated $100 billion from our national economy every year, and is blamed for the deaths of over 125,000 Americans annually (342 people every day). Ten percent of all hospital admissions are the result of pharmaceutical noncompliance, and 23 percent of all nursing home admissions are due to people’s inability to take their medications as prescribed.”
With these sad statistics, the current state of the economy and our growing senior population, pharmacies servicing the long term care (LTC) and corrections markets have been looking for a cost effective blister packaging solution to help increase medication compliance and reduce costs. The 30CP system is designed for ease of use, low operational learning curve, greatly reduced packaging costs and minimal maintenance requirements. Touch & Talk is the only US based pharmacy Automation Company providing state of the art blister packaging systems for the pharmacy and clinical trials markets with the capabilities to produce all of the different blister package styles including 31 day calendar packs. Now pharmacies can better control costs and have a choice in packaging styles and options to better serve their customers and increase medication compliance. Touch & Talk offers free product information and sample packages for review and is currently in discussion with larger pharmacy chains for systems placement nationwide.
